OKTOBERFEST (Friday 10/22 – Sunday 10/24)

We’re taking on some German classics and doing it up New World style. The bar will add one more tap and feature Spaten Oktoberfest for one weekend only. Dinner specials will include:

Brats and Homemade Kraut… Forest Mushroom Strudel… Potato Pancakes with Apple Sauce… Smoked Pork Chops with Juniper-Apple Kraut and Spaetzle.

HALLOWEEN (Friday 10/29 – Sunday 10/31)

Spooky specials from the Kitchen and Bar all weekend. Put on a costume (or just hang out and enjoy ours) and join us for extra celebrations on Sunday!

NWBB Wins National Award for Culinary Excellence

The 2010 Santé Restaurant Award winners were announced October 4th 2010, and New World Bistro Bar in Albany won for Culinary Hospitality in the category for “Innovative” food. NWBB was one of only 16 restaurants in the country to be awarded this title.

Now in their thirteenth year, the Santé Awards recognize excellence in restaurant food, wine, spirits, and service hospitality. The Santé Awards program is the only peer-judged national restaurant and hospitality competition in North America. Applications are judged on their culinary philosophy, staff training and menu creativity.

Chef Ric won a Santé Award in 2006 for Culinary Hospitality at New World Home Cooking, Saugerties.

Chef Ric is Two Time “Chopped” Champ!

Chef Ric Orlando appeared three times on the Food Network’s competition show “Chopped.” In the first episode, Ric made Rum Raisin Jerk Quail, Chipotle Chocolate Drizzled Rainbow Trout with Sweet ‘n Sour Cabbage and a Papaya – Cheese Tart … which won him $10,000!

Ric then beat 3 other previous winners in the Chopped Champions episode on Tuesday September 21. He created three more bold dishes, including Spice Rubbed Elk, with red wine chocolate sauce, parsley root mashers and fried caperberry-parsley salad and a “Choco Taco”— filled with espresso ganache, thai curried pears and cardamom crema. These earned him a spot in the Champions Finale, with $50,000 on the line.

In the Finale, it was down to the final four— the best of the Chopped Champions. The competition was tough and Ric made two great dishes before getting “chopped” after the second round. What an amazing performance. Rock on, Ric!!
